From Faro to Santigo via Ruta de la Plata

A walk ive read about and always fancied doing

I arrived in Faro from Uk.... in late feb... The weather in Uk was cold and grey, but in portugal like summer... I arrived in Portugal as it was the easiest and cheapest flight for me at the time.

I leisurely walked across the bottom of portugal...taking one small trian journey at the end to arrive at the river mouth that divides portugal from spain...on crossing by small ferry to spain ..i arrived in ayamonte .... from here on in all travel was by foot. The temp was amazing for the time of year and regularly hit the mid to high 20c. I continued from Huelva along the coast to the Donana national park and an amazing wild west town El rocio... from here on up to Seville. After a few days sightseeing in seville i continued up the via de la plata in glorious sun... plenty of things to see on route from roman architecture to beautiful vistas....

Altough i was walking out of normal pilgrim season i found everything open and never in need of a shop or cafe for very long.....

After leaving extremadura and enetering into the first moutains ... the weather cooled somewhat... and later in the second set of mountains the weather cooled again and it felt like i was back in england with the biting wind.  But still good walking weather appeared intermittantly. On entering Galicia the heavens opened and i started to find places not yet open ... however there where still enough places about to continue untroubled ....

The scenery in places was stunning... there where one or two sections which were very hard both on the feet and to look at as they were vertual deserts and baking hot.

Arriving in Santiago felt like a real achievement and getting my second compostela in memory of my father was emotional

 A wonderful experiance
